The University of Antelope Valley (UAV) is a regionally accredited private, for-profit university in Lancaster, California. It offers a variety of masters, bachelors, associate degrees, and certificate programs, as well as continuing education courses.

History




TWC3 News: University Of Antelope Valley - Antelope Valley Medical College changes it's name and expands their curriculum to become the University of the Antelope Valley. Marco and Sandra Johnson Lauren Lyster reports.

The school was founded as Antelope Valley Medical College in 1997 by retired Los Angeles City firefighter / paramedic Marco Johnson and his wife Sandra as a school teaching community CPR, first aid, EMT and other medical training. In 2009 the school was accredited by the United States Department of Education and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools and began granting associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees and became the University of Antelope Valley. In 2016 the University of Antelope Valley received its regional accreditation with WASC Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

UAV offers five associate degrees. It also offers eight bachelor's degree programs: Business Management, Communication Studies, Criminal Justice, Electrical Engineering, Health Fitness Specialist, Healthcare Management, Sports Management and an online program in Nursing (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Three master's degrees are offered: Master in Business Administration (MBA), Criminal Justice, and Master of Education. A variety of certificate programs, including Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management, Emergency Medical Technician, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, Professional Baking and Pastry, and Vocational Nursing are available. UAV is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WSCUC), Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). UAV's Paramedic Program is only 1 of 4 programs approved in Los Angeles County.

In the month of September 2011, the university offered to pay $2,000 to employers that hired an alumnus.

Athletics

The University of Antelope Valley's athletic teams are known as the Pioneers. The UAV Pioneers started competing as an independent in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics during the 2004รข€"05 school year, and joined the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) for the 2015-16 school year. The school currently offers men's and women's cross country, soccer, and basketball; women's softball, women's volleyball, and men's baseball.
